Specialist areas of practice
Joshua is a highly accomplished litigator, with specialist expertise in regulatory and disciplinary prosecutions, acting both as a prosecutor and as defence counsel. He acts for and advises various regulatory bodies, government departments and local authorities on their compliance, monitoring and enforcement responsibilities.
Joshua has appeared as lead counsel in hundreds of trials in the District Court and High Court. He also has extensive appellate experience and appears regularly before the full range of Courts, Tribunals and other judicial bodies, including the Human Rights Review Tribunal and the Māori Land Court.
With considerable experience in Coronial Inquests, Joshua is regularly appointed as counsel assisting the Coroner, often in cases of high public interest. He also acts for the New Zealand Law Society in disciplinary proceedings against lawyers, and has been appointed by the High Court, District Court and Employment Court as counsel to assist in various capacities.
Joshua also acts for clients involved in relationship property disputes and Family Court proceedings relating to the care of children. He routinely deals with complex and high value relationship property disputes with an overlay of related trust and company issues.
Joshua was previously a partner in the Office of the Auckland Crown Solicitor, where he worked as a Crown prosecutor for 12 years.
