Fiona is a Special Counsel in the Local Government, Environment and Planning team at Wynn Williams. She joined the firm following over 10 years at the Nelson City Council (a unitary authority), initially as Sole Counsel and then General Counsel.
With this experience, Fiona has developed an in-depth understanding of the range of legal, operational and political pressures facing both territorial and regional authorities. She provides strategic and pragmatic advice in all areas of local government law, enabling local authority clients to navigate complex issues and achieve their objectives.
Fiona also specialises in environmental and resource management law. With her combination of local authority and private sector experience, she is well placed to advise clients on all aspects of resource management planning, consenting, appeal and law reform processes.
Fiona is an experienced advocate appearing before local authorities and the Environment Court. Fiona is based in Whakatū Nelson, strengthening the firm’s ability to support clients throughout Marlborough and Tasman, while continuing to work in both Ōtautahi Christchurch and throughout the wider South Island.
