Specialist areas of practice
Ellie is a partner in our national Dispute Resolution Team, specialising in regulatory and insurance litigation. She is an experienced trial lawyer, having appeared in the District Court, High Court, Court of Appeal as well as various specialist tribunals.
In the insurance field, Ellie acts for local and international insurers advising on complex indemnity issues and is appointed by insurers as defence counsel, with a specialty in professional indemnity and statutory liability issues.
Ellie’s statutory liability work comprises regulatory prosecutions, coronial inquests and commissions of inquiry. She has been involved in a large number of complex, multi-defendant investigations and prosecutions (particularly the Health and Safety at Work Act, Resource Management Act, Commerce Act and Animal Products Act) including the leading case on recklessness and costs in criminal cases.
In the professional indemnity space, Ellie regularly defends lawyers, accountants, brokers and real estate agents against civil claims and disciplinary complaints with a history of successful outcomes.
Ellie is a member of the New Zealand Insurance Law Association, the Australia and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance and the New Zealand Animal Law Association.
